At least 10 Bangladeshi migrant workers were killed and 10 more workers were injured in a road accident at Jizan province of the Saudi Arabia on Saturday as they were travelling to their workplace by a truck.
Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh and Consulate General Office in Jeddah conformed names and Iqama numbers of the seven workers.
The deceased were Matu Rahman, Mir Abu Miah, Jasim Uddin, Shafiqul Shikder, Mohammad Dulal, Deen Miah and Amin Miah.
Meanwhile, the New Age correspondent in Tangail reported that two workers from Tangail were killed among 10 deceased in the road accident in KSA.
They were identified as Abdur Rahim, son of Sadikul Islam from Kasturipara village in Kalihati upazila and Amin Miah, son of Hamid Ali from Dubail village in Delduar upazila.
According to the message received from the Consulate General Office in Jeddah, a group of 20 Bangladeshi workers were reportedly going to the working place by a truck from their residence at about 7:00am on January 6.
On the way a vehicle from behind hit the truck and it skidded off the road.
The accident claimed eight lives on the spot and another two in hospital, the message confirmed.
Aminul Islam, labour counsellor, Bangladesh Consulate General Office in Jeddah, told New Age that the area was so remote that they did not get enough information.
‘We are working hard. An official has been sent to the spot,’ he said.
Wage Earners’ Welfare Board officials told New Age that they maintained communications with Bangladesh mission in Jeddah to receive the updated information.
WEWB assistant director Zahid Anwar said that dead bodies would be brought back home after completion of legal process in the destination.
New Age Correspondent in Sirajganj reported that deceased worker Dulal, son of Akbar Ali, was from Balukul village at Samarkanda upazila in Sirajganj district.
