87 new BRTC buses to hit city streets in Ramadan: Obaidul

Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) will introduce 87 more air-conditioned buses in the capital in the month of Ramadan to ease sufferings of the city dwellers.

“The buses have already been imported from India and they are now ready for plying in the city streets,” Communications Minister Obaidul Quader said while talking to reporters after a meeting with the ministry’s top officials on Wednesday.

He also said the Communications Ministry will float tender by July 15-20 to procure new taxicabs and minibuses for plying in the city.

Half of the works on the four-lane Dhaka-Chittagong highway and Joydebpur-Mymensingh highway have been completed, the minister said, adding that the rest of the work will quickly be done.

He also said punitive action was taken against some engineers following reports of 21 teams formed by the ministry to oversee the overhauling of dilapidated roads on substandard works.
