Young Tigers face India in quarters

Bangladesh will face off against India in their ICC Under-19 World Cup quarterfinal encounter at the Queenstown Events Centre on January 26. The game will be telecast live from 3.30pm (BST) on Star Sports 1.

The young Tigers finished second in Group-C after England romped to a massive 282-run win over Canada in the final group stage fixture yesterday.

England will now face their perennial rivals Australia, who finished second in Group-B while India topped, in the other quarterfinal on January 23.

Bangladesh won their first two matches against Namibia and Canada, two associate member-nations of the ICC, convincingly but suffered a big defeat against England.

The India game, in unfamiliar New Zealand conditions, will be a big test for the young Tigers, who lack depth in batting and do not have quality pace bowlers. And although Bangladesh finished third in the last edition of this tournament, which was held at home in 2014, it will be tough for them to make it into the last four this time around.

Interestingly though West Indies, who won the title in the previous edition by beating India, failed to even cross the group stages this time around.

Interestingly, the West Indies team, who won the title in Bangladesh in 2014 by beating India in the final, have failed to cross the group stage in this edition.

Pakistan will take on South Africa in the third quarterfinal while hosts New Zealand will face an impressive Afghanistan side in the fourth quarterfinal on January 25.
