Twaki murder accused bail stayed

The Appellate Division’s Chamber Justice Hasan Foez Siddique issued the order on Tuesday.

On June 24, a High Court vacation bench had granted bail to accused Saleh Rahman Simanta.

But the jail authorities withheld his release on learning of the appeal against the HC order.

Twaki, the son of Rafiur Rabbi, organiser of the Ganajagaran Mancha in Narayanganj, was killed on Mar 6 last year.

His body was found in a canal leading off the Sitalakhyya River two days later.

Rabbi filed a case against unknown people with the Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station.

Later, he lodged a written complaint to the Narayanganj SP on Mar 20, accusing seven people, including former MP and Awami League leader Shamim Osman, his son Ayon Osman, district Juba League Zahirul Islam Parvez, Chhatra League leaders Rajib Das, Mizanur Rahman, Saleh Rahman Simanta and Rifaat.

Rabbi alleged his son had been tortured to death in the office of Shamim Osman’s nephew Azmeri Osman.

RAB recovered a pair of blood-stained jeans from the office on Aug 7 last year.

Shamim Osman, however, denied his family’s role in the murder.

RAB was assigned the investigation, though the police had done the initial probe.
