Hanif for stern action against the lawmaker
Awami League thinks that the image of the government and the party has been badly harmed by party lawmaker Golam Maula Rony’s attack on two journalists, Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif said Sunday.
“We will discuss it in the party forum and urge the party high command to take stern action against him for tarnishing the image by beating journalists,” Hanif said.
Condemning the attack, Hanif termed it as a shameful and sad incident.
“As Rony is not a member of the party at any stage, we can’t take organisational steps against him,” he said.
But the AL Parliamentary Party could take actions as he belongs to it, the AL leader said.
The AL leader also observed that legal action should be taken against the lawmaker as per the laws.
Hanif, also a special assistant to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, said political leaders must have a good relation with the journalists as they point out the ideology, successes and philosophy of any political party to the people.
“Journalists are the bridge between the politicians and the people,” he said.
The AL leader advised journalists to discharge their duties more carefully to avert any untoward incidents.
Rony beat up reporter Imtiaz Momin and cameraperson Mohsin Mukul who belong to a team that produces the crime-investigative show “Talash” for the Independent TV channel, at his Topkhana Road office in the capital on Saturday, leaving them seriously injured.
Independent TV sued Rony for assaulting its journalists, which prompted the lawmaker to file a counter suit against Salman F Rahman, owner of the private television channel.
