PM: Latif’s remark is not acceptable

Prime Minister and ruling Awami League President Sheikh Hasina has said Latif Siddique’s remark is not acceptable to anyone.

She made the statement in her speech at the Awami League working Committee meeting at Gababhaban on Sunday evening.

“Latif Siddique has been removed from the cabinet as per the constitution,” Hasina said.

The prime minister also said Awami League believes in secularism.

Posts and Telecommunications Minister Abdul Latif Siddique has been removed from the cabinet for hurting the religious sentiments of the people with his recent comments on hajj.

A gazette notification on the removal of the minister was on Sunday, said Cabinet Secretary M Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan.

President Md Abdul Hamid terminated Latif as a minister following the advice of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

About BNP’s threat to wage anti-government movement, the prime minister said: “The government will not tolerate vandalism, torching and killing people in the name of movement.”

She said BNP has proved that development of the country is not possible under its leadership.
