Nagorik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna has been admitted to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) under police custody.

Members of Detective Branch (DB) of police took Manna to DMCH on Tuesday night.

DMCH sources said Manna is under treatment at bed no 11 at Unit-1 of the CCU under observation of CCU division head Dr Abdul Wadud Chowdhury.

Doctors said Manna is suffering from high blood pressure and several other complications, including back pain.

Nothing about Manna’s condition can be said before 72 hours, they said.

On 7 March, a Dhaka court placed Manna, now facing sedition charges, on a fresh 10-day remand in a sedition case.

On 23 February, media reports on leaked telephone conversations between Manna and BNP leader Sadeque Hossain Khoka and also with an unknown person created much hue and cry on the political front.

Manna was picked up allegedly by a law enforcement agency early on 24 February, and was handed over to the Gulshan police early hours of 25 February.

The police filed a case under section 131 of penal code on charge of instigating the armed forces for rebellion.

On 25 February, Manna was put on the first spell of a 10-day remand after he was produced before the court.
