Man stabbed dead by BCL activists in Sutrapur

A man was killed when Bangladesh Chhatra League activists suspecting him to be a pro-blockade activist stabbed indiscriminately in Sutrapur area of Old Dhaka Sunday morning.

The deceased was identified as Bishwajit Das, 24, proprietor of Amantron Tailors in Shankharibazar area of Sutrapur.

The incident ensued when a number of cocktails exploded in front of Bahadur Shah Park around 8:15am.

Hearing the sounds, machete and stick-wielding BCL men of Jagannath University unit rushed to the spot and chased some people suspecting them to be pickets.

At one stage, they caught Bishwajit, who was passing through the area during the incident, and gave him a good beating.

Bishwajit was rushed to Mitford Hospital in critical condition where he died around 10:10am, the hospital sources said.

Family members claimed that Bishwajit was not involved with any political party.
