Kishoreganj bank heist: 2 put on 3-day remand

 

A court here on Tuesday placed Mahima Khatun, wife of prime suspect Habibur Rahman alias Sohel alias Yousuf Munshi, and truck helper Alamgir on a three-day remand in the Sonali Bank burglary case.

 

Senior Judicial Magistrate Hamidul Islam passed the order when officer-in-charge of Kishoreganj Model Police Station Abdul Malek, also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before his court seeking seven days’ remand.

 

Burglars tunneled into the vault of Sonali Bank’s main branch at Rathkhola in the district town and looted about Tk 16.40 crore.

 

The burglary that took place in a filmy style came to light in the afternoon of January 26 when bank employees went to the vault room for money.

 

Members of Rapid Action Battalion arrested Sohel alias Yousuf Munshi and his aide Idrish Ali along with looted Tk 16.19 crore from Shyampur Balurmath area in the capital on January 28.

 

Police arrested Mahima Khatun along with Tk 2.5 lakh from Jatrabari area in the capital on Saturday while Alamgir, the helper of the truck used for carrying the looted money to Dhaka, from Munshiganj district on Monday.
