Dispelling all the confusions about the next general election, Prime Minister Sheikh on Monday reiterated her call to the opposition to join the polls-time government as the election will be held in time.
The Prime Minister said this while addressing a function marking the inauguration of the multi-storied building of Dhaka Lawyers’ Association and laying the foundation stone of Chief Judicial Magistrate Court on the premises of the CJM Court.
“I’ve urged the opposition to participate in the polls-time all-party government and my call is still valid. We’ve to start from somewhere…we need to ensure a good environment for the next generation so that they could follow democratic norms and do not have face any tumultuous time,” she added.
Sheikh Hasina said she called upon the opposition to join the polls-time although the ruling party has 90 percent seats in Parliament.
After 1975, the premier said, there were troubles during all the elections. “In the last 38 years, all elections were held under adhoc basis arrangements. In the past, election used to mean hooligans and muscle flexing and media coup,” she said.
Terming the voting rights as the basic rights of people, the Prime Minister said the government wanted to establish the people franchise in the country. “Now people will cast their votes and form their desired government.”
Talking about the long procedure for amending the Constitution, Hasina said now the amended constitution to provide capital punishment for illegal power capture.
Hasina called upon the judges and the lawyers to perform their duties with utmost sincerity to ensure justice, and assured them of their all-out government support to this end.
Sheikh Hasina said her government wants to establish Bangladesh as a transparent and accountable welfare state where all citizens will enjoy their basic rights.
The present government as part of its election pledge established an independent and neutral Judiciary through separating it from the executive, she mentioned.
Sheikh Hasina renewed her determination to complete the trial of war criminals to free the country from a big stigma.
Sheikh Hasina said her government has undertaken initiatives to construct Chief Judicial Magistrate buildings in all 64 districts.
Construction works on multistoried CJM building in 34 districts have already begun while the process of land acquisition and giving work orders has also started in the rest 30 districts, she added.
She said her government is constructing buildings and other court infrastructures at all levels, including annex building of the Supreme Court and a footbridge by allocating necessary funds.
Referring to the establishment of ‘Digital Bangladesh’, Sheikh Hasina mentioned that court activities have been brought under digital system while various services, including cause lists, are now found on websites.
Any citizen of the country now could get the cause lists of Dhaka District Judge, Dhaka City Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court, CMM, CJM court and Supreme Court on websites, Hasina said, adding that anybody now could have all laws and rules on cause lists through digital display.
Advocate Shahara Khatun, State Minister for Law Advocate Kamrul Islam and President of Dhaka Lawyers Association Kazi Mohammad Nozibullah Hiru and Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Bikash Kumar Shaha, among others, spoke on the occasion.
