“We will have to implement the projects we have taken up. This requires us to stay”, she said while inaugurating the ‘Kuril Flyover’ at the capital on Sunday.

She provided a list of various development projects taken up by the Awami League led government.

She said, “I don’t know if the people of Bangladesh want to return to the dark ages. Do they want to head back to the days of militancy, terror, black money and corruption?”

“Will we return to those dark days or will we walk forward on the path of enlightenment? We want to take Bangladesh forward to match up to the best in the world,” she asked.

Taking an obvious dig at her bete noire BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, Hasina said: “The leader of the Opposition says she wants to introduce a new style of governance, which means new ways of corruption will be tried out.”

Of elections when in power, Sheikh Hasina said the fact that the ruling party lost many of them proves ‘we accept who people vote for.’

“We have lost many even though we are in power.”

She said, “I can say nothing if people choose criminals and corrupt individuals over honest candidates. But I will warn them and suggest that they vote for someone who loves this country.”

Every single sector has seen development ever since this government assumed power, claimed the Prime Minister. “Kuril Flyover is only one of it. This was rapidly completed because we felt responsible for the country at heart.”

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina launched the construction of the flyover May 2, 2010.

The construction of the 3.1-km flyover has cost Tk 3.06 billion against an initial estimate was Tk 2.54 billion.

The capital’s development authority, RAJUK, financed the project with its own resources. Project Builders Limited was in charge of its construction.

This toll-free flyover can be accessed from four sides – Banani, Kuril, Khilkeht, and Purbachal.

It took 38 months to complete the core structure of the flyover.
