BNP announces schedule of polls to top posts

Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Monday announced election schedule for the party’s chairman and senior vice-chairman posts.
The election to the two top posts of the party would be held on March 19 during the party’s national council.
BNP standing committee Jamiruddin Sircar, chairman of Election Conducting Commission-2016 for election of BNP’s chairman and senior-vice chairman as per the constitution of the party at a news briefing at the party’s central office at Naya Paltan announced the schedules for election to chairman and senior vice-chairman of BNP.
The nomination paper could be collected from temporary office of the commission at BNP Naya Paltan central office from returning officer and assistant returning officer from 10:00am to 4:00pm on March 2.
Jamiruddin said already the election conducting commission appointed BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan as returning officer while the party chairperson’s advisory council member Abdul Mannan as assistant returning officer for conducting the election fair manner.
The last date for submission of nomination papers is March 4, date for scrutiny of the nomination papers is March 5 and last date for withdrawal of nomination paper is March 6.
Jamiruddin said candidates for chairman and senior vice-chairman own-selves or through their nominated agents in written could collect nomination paper, submit, withdraw and could present during vote counting.
The age for candidates for chairman and senior vice-chairman should be minimum 30 years and he or she might be the party’s subscription paying member.
In reply to a question, Jamiruddin categorically said there is no possibility to defer the national council set for March 19.
Earlier on February 10, BNP standing committee meeting had formed the Election Conducting Commission-2016 for election of BNP’s chairman and senior-vice chairman with Jamiruddin Sircar as chairman.
The party’s vice-chairman Harun-or-Rashid was made member and national executive committee member Aminul Huq as member secretary of the commission.
Member, member secretary, returning officer and assistant returning officer of the commission were present.
Party insiders said it would be very unlikely for anyone but incumbent chairperson and senior vice-chairman to collect nomination papers.
