BCL demands ban on Shibir

Bangladesh Chhatra League on Wednesday demanded that the government bans Islami Chhatra Shibir after a US-based think tank listed it the world’s most active non-state armed group in 2013.

In a joint statement BCL President HM Bodiuzzaman Sohagh and general secretary Siddique Nazmul Alam said Shibir and its parent organization Jamaat-e-Islami have turned terrorism into an institution.

“This clique had killed people, torched houses and violated women in 1971. They are continuing killing meritorious students in the educational institutions,” the statement said.

“They want to destabilize the educational institutions across the country to hinder its progress,” they added.

US-based defence think tank IHS Jane, in its latest study titled Global Terrorism & Insurgency Attack Index 2013, has described Islami Chhatra Shibir as the world’s third most active non-state armed group in 2013.
