Bangladeshi actor wins US award

A young Bangladeshi actor has won the US-based Universe Multicultural Film Festival (UMFF) award in Los Angeles for his central role in a film based on the stories of 1971 War of Independence.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a media release said Chowdhury Zahata Afnan won the award for his acting in the ‘Amar Bondhu Rashed’ –My Friend Rashed – a film directed by Morshedul Islam.

He won the award in April, but the ministry’s Director General for External Publicity Shameem Ahsan was handed over the award for Afnan on Tuesday.

Earlier, Bangladesh Consulate General in Los Angeles received the certificate and souvenir in an awards ceremony on behalf of the actor, the media release said.

The story of the 95-minute film is based on the novel of the fiction writer Muhammad Zafar Iqbal.
