Afghanistan pacer Dawlat Zadran struck two sixes in consecutive deliveries of last over in their Asia Cup qualifying round match against Oman on Saturday at Fatullah to help his side clinch a three-wicket victory.
Oman made 165-4 and Zardan came into the wicket in the second ball of the last over with the score of 156-7 and the 27-year old performed his heroics to keep his team alive in the tournament.
Afghanistan lost their first match against United Arab Emirates on Friday and would have been eliminated from the tournament had they lost to Oman, who won their first match against Hong Kong.
Zadran, who struck just one six in his 22-match career prior to the match, became the Afghan hero but the chase was setup by a swashbuckling fifty of his namesake, opener Noor Ali Zadran.
Opener Zadran made 63 off 44 balls and made an important 59-run partnership in the fifth wicket with another Zadran, Najibullah (23), to recover their side from a precarious 4-81.
Skipper Ashghar Stanikzai made a 34 off 17 batting at number three.
Right-arm pacer Mehran Khan got 3-18 off his four overs and left-arm pacer Bilal khan grabbed 3-33 for Oman, but their efforts went in vain.
Earlier, Oman made a flying start with openers Zeeshan Maqsood (52) and Jatinder Singh (23) made 72 runs after they won the toss and decided to bat first.
Adnan Ilyas used the solid platform and excelled with a quickfire 54 off just 27 balls with three boundaries and four sixes to post a good total on the board though that turned out to be inadequate.
Gulbadin Naib grabbed two wickets while Dawlat and Amir Hamza got one wicket apiece for Afghanistan.
UAE will take on Hong Kong in today’s only match at the same venue.
