“You must be executed,” Anisul said, referring to Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury while addressing a reception of freedom fighters at Akhaura upazila auditorium in Brahmanbaria.
The Akhaura upazila unit of Amra Muktijoddhar Shontan organised the reception where over 300 freedom fighters were given crests.
Addressing as chief guest, the law minister said, “A verdict was announced on 29 July, the final verdict of razakar [collaborator of Pakistan army in 1971 war], son of Fazlul Quader Chowdhury. He was sentenced to death.”
Referring to video footage of Salahuddin Quader, the minister said, “In the video, he repeatedly said, ‘My father was not in favour of Bangladesh’. How dare he makes such statements staying in Bangladesh! We know his father was a razakar. Uttering this once was enough. Now I am saying, ‘You will be sentenced to death, you will be sentenced to death, you will b sentenced to death.’”
Anisul Huq, also a ruling party member of parliament of the Kosba-Akhaura constituency, said, “My father, mother and brother were freedom fighters. Today, I as the son of freedom fighters am calling on you all that resist these razakars.”
He, however, urged the audience not to take the law into their own hands. “Resist them socially and resort to the law. I am promising you that the Awami League-government will for sure free the nation from such stigma and will build Sonar Bangla by punishing those who committed crimes against humanity.”
