Fire service and civil defence divers on Friday morning recovered the body of a four-year-old boy after he fell in a sewer behind Mirpur Commerce College in the city’s Mirpur area on Thursday afternoon.
The victim was identified as Junaid Sabbir, son of Amir Hossain of Mirpur area.
The kid died in the sewer canal only one week after a six-year-old girl died falling into a canal in city’s Mahakhali area on July 14.
Locals said Sabbir remained missing since about 4:30pm on Thursday and locals and family make announcement in the locality that he was missing.
As there was no trace of the boy until evening, they suspected that he might have fallen into the sewer canal.
The locals then informed the fire service and civil defence office.
The service central control room said that four of their divers rushed to the spot around 10:00pm on Friday and suspended the drive around Friday 3:00am as they did not find the kid there.
‘The divers resumed the drive around 7:00am again and found the kid’s body around 10:45am,’ Jibon Mia, duty officer of the service control room, said.
With the latest one, the deaths of at least seven children falling into open manhole, borehole, drains and canals were reported in Dhaka since 2012.
