In two separate accidents, three Bangladeshi workers were killed and another was injured in Malaysia in the last two days.
A Bangladeshi worker was killed and another hurt in an accident at Semantan work site of Mass Rapid Transit Corporation line in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
Issuing a media statement, the company said Rijaul Abdul Goni, 40, died on the spot while the injured, Shanaullah, 37, was sent to Hospital Kuala Lumpur.
The incident happened at the construction site around 1:20pm (local time), said Amir Mahmood Razak, director of strategic communications and public relations of the company. “The workers were on the ground assembling a rebar (reinforcing bars) cage … during the assembly, the tie gave way. The rebars fell and hit the workers,” he said.
Amir added that the cause of death of Rijaul would be known after getting a post-mortem report.
In another accident, two Bangladeshi workers were buried alive when soil tumbled down on them inside a pit on Thursday afternoon at Tapah in Perak state.
The dead are Mohammad Iqbal, 30, son of Hasu Miah, and Md Taleb, son of Hiron Miah, both from Narsingdi, Sayedul Islam, counsellor (labour wing) at Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur told The Daily Star yesterday.
The accident occurred at a factory construction site in Kampung Banir when the workers were working in a pit around 4:30pm (local time), The Star, a Malaysian English daily, reported, quoting Tapah Fire and Rescue Department chief A Ravi.
They received a call in this regard and rushed to the scene to conduct a rescue operation, Ravi said.
Counsellor Sayedul Islam, who visited the spot, said some 20 Bangladeshi workers were working at a Belgium-based company. “Two Bangladeshis died in the accident.”
The bodies were kept at Tapah Hospital and would be sent to Bangladesh by Tuesday, he said.
