A victim, undergoing treatment at Enam Medical College and Hospital in Savar, talks to reporters alleging that they were forced to work.
A number of workers of four garment factories in Savar alleged that they were forced to work in the morning.
At least 80 people were killed and over 600 injured when a nine-storey building housing five garment factories, a branch of Brac bank and a market collapsed Wednesday morning.
“We were forced to work in the morning. We were working inside the building risking our lives,” said a worker who was undergoing treatment at Enam Medical College and Hospital in Savar.
He was talking to reporters at the hospital.
A number of workers who were undergoing treatment in the hospital also alleged that they did not want to return to work as several cracks had developed in the building on Tuesday.
Following the cracks, the workers were evacuated and the garments authorities declared a leave for Tuesday.
“We want punishment to the people who wielding-sticks compelled us to join work,” another worker said.
“Thanks to Almighty Allah who saved our lives,” he said.
When the building collapsed suddenly in the morning, all the workers tumbled due to a huge jerk.
They did not even identify the specific place where they were due to the darkness inside the building, said an injured worker.
“We want desperately to find out the staircase but could not,” he said.
Another woman, who is lucky enough to survive the collapse, was found wailing for her sister who was trapped inside the building with many others.
A young man who tied his knot just five months before was also found welling for his newly-wed bride.
