President Abdul Hamid on Saturday urged welfare-oriented organisations to come forward to supplement the government efforts to turn Bangladesh into a middle-income country by 2021.
“The government has adopted the plan to turn our beloved motherland into a middle-income nation by 2021. I urge other welfare organisations to come forward like Lions Clubs to supplement the government’s effort. I hope, we’ll be able to build Bangabandhu’s Golden Bengal if all work together for changing the lot of the common people,” he said.
The President was addressing the inaugural session of the 27th annual multiple district convention of Lions Clubs International at city’s Hotel Sonargaon.
Mentioning that the role of various institutions as well as social organisations are very impartment apart from the government one for the overall development of the nation, Abdul Hamid said, “ It’ll be possible to take the country to an expected level of development by discharging duties bestowed upon all properly.”
He went on say, “You have both the scope and ability to work in the fields like education, health, environment, sanitation and reproductive health. If you involve yourselves in these welfare activities as the solvent people of society, the overall development and progress of the country will be expedited apart from ensuring quality.”
Observing that the country is advancing towards prosperity as a nation, the President said the per capita income has marked a raise, the rate of education increased, the standard of living improved apart from visible progress in electricity generation, communications, agriculture and urbanization, Hamid added.
“However, I have to admit we’re still far behind from our desired development. I hope, we’ll be able to build Bangabandhu’s Sonar Bangla (Golden Bengal) soon, if we work together,” the President said.
FBCCI President Qazi Akram Uddin Ahmed, Council Chairperson of the district Dr S M Zaglul A Mojumder, Past International Directors Sheikh Kabir Hossain and Moslem Ali Khan and Convention Chairman Altaf Hossain Biswas also spoke on the occasion.
