Western Fishers Shipyard, a joint venture of Western Marine Shipyard and Fishers Shipyard Limited, has recently received orders to build 12 fishing trawlers worth around Tk 300 crore.
The fishing trawlers will be built for four private owners to operate in the Bay of Bengal, officials said on Wednesday.
Among the 12 fishing trawlers, Western Fishers has already constructed three and completed their sea trials successfully.
These will be launched soon for commercial operation and the construction of the rest of the vessels is expected to be completed by November 2013.
The designs of the trawlers have been uniquely developed and verified by an Icelandic designer considering the weather and sea condition of the Bay of Bengal.
These ships are called Deep Sea Mid Water Fishing Trawler and will be capable of operating in the rough and much deeper sea.
Unlike other imported fishing trawlers in Bangladesh, theses ships are being made to operate in the Bangladeshi fishing zone considering all the challenges in fishing in the sea. These are equipped with advanced machinery which makes the vessel fit for fishing in the Bay of Bengal even in monsoon.
Each vessel will be able to carry and store 300 tonnes of fish having hi-tech European refrigeration system, including processing deck, slurry ice machine, chill water maker, blast freezer and store freezers.
