West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee arrives in Dhaka

Mamata

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam received her at the airport after a regular Air India flight landed at about 8:40pm, his aide told bdnews24.com.

From the airport, she drove straight to Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel where she will stay.

Modi with his entire entourage will stay at Pan Pacific Sonargoan.

She earlier said she would leave on Saturday after witnessing the exchange of instruments on ratification of the Land Boundary Agreement at the Prime Minister’s Office.

Before that, she will call on Modi at his hotel.

It is due to Banerjee’s resistance that the much-talked-about Teesta water-sharing deal would not be inked this time like it was not during Manmohan Singh’s 2011 visit.

She came back within three months of her first Bangladesh visit as Chief Minister.

Dhaka is keeping hopes alive of getting the Teesta deal inked in future.

Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali told reporters on Friday that they were working on it, and that “everything does not come overnight”.

Modi will arrive at about 10:30am on Saturday in a special Indian Air Force flight.

He will return on Sunday evening, ending a 36-hour whirlwind tour when a range of instruments would be signed to enhance trade and connectivity.
