The US government on Tuesday assured Bangladesh of providing Tk 36 crore in assistance for the innovation of climate-tolerant technology and strengthening the capacity of the Environment and Forests Ministry.
The assurance came when USAID mission director Richard Greene met Environment and Forests Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud at his Secretariat office here on Tuesday morning.
Richard Greene said the US government will provide this assistance though a project to be taken by Food and Agriculture Organization.
The meeting said the USAID and the ministry will sign an agreement in May in this regard to launch the three-year project.
Under the project, the capacity of the officials of the ministry and its departments will be strengthened and research initiatives will be taken to promote climate-tolerant forest resources.
