US Senate confirms Earl R Miller as new US envoy in Dhaka
The US Senate Foreign Relation Committee have approved the nomination of Earl Robert Miller as the next US ambassador to Bangladesh, according to a post by the official Facebook page of the US Embassy Dhaka.
Miller is currently serving as the US ambassador to Botswana.
Earlier in July, US President Donald Trump had announced his intent to nominate Miller to be next Ambassador of the United States of America to Bangladesh. His nomination, however, awaited confirmation of the US Senate through a hearing in the Foreign Relations Committee of Senate as per provision.
The Ambassador-designate must still be officially sworn in before arriving in Dhaka to present his credentials to the president of Bangladesh.
He is serving as the Ambassador to Botswana since December 18, 2014. He will succeed current US Ambassador in Dhaka Marcia Bernicat, who has been on assignment to Bangladesh since February 4, 2015.
