Visiting US Congressman Steve Chabot today urged both political parties to restrain from violence and remain peaceful.
Emerging from a meeting with Foreign Minister Dipu Moni at her office, Chabot told reporters, “We’ve agreed on many things. One thing we agreed particularly that there is no room for violence by either side in Bangladesh.”
Many innocent people can get injured or killed in the violence, said Chabot, the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific.
“So both sides should have spearhead the campaign and speak the truth that ‘whoever wins win but absolutely no violence’. I strongly urge both sides to be peaceful,” said the US Congressmen.
Earlier in the morning, Chabot arrived in Dhaka on a two-day official visit to discuss the current political challenges Bangladesh is facing over the upcoming general elections.
