Upazila chairman burnt to death

Fire service personnel went to the spot and brought the fire under control, says Feni Fire Service official

Fulgazi Upazila Chairman Ekramul Haq has been shot and burnt to death by miscreants, setting fire his microbus in Academy area of Feni town on Tuesday morning.

Shamsul Alam Sarker, Assistant Superintendent of Police of Feni Circle, has confirmed about the death to the Dhaka Tribune.

Miscreants shot at the microbus of Fulgazi Upazlia Chairman Ekramul Haq around 10:45am, Sarker said.

“Then they torched the microbus with Ekram inside, leaving him dead on the spot and four others injured.”

Ekram, 47, was the ruling Awami League-backed Upazila Chairman of Fulgazi, Feni. He was also president of Awami League, Fulgazi Upazlia unit.

The injured are Mahbub Ullah, editor of a local newspaper, Mohammad Hossain, Shamsu chairman and microbus driver Mamun.

They have been admitted to Feni Sadar Hospital, Feni Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Abul Kalam Azad said.

Feni Fire Service official Jahangir Alam told the Dhaka Tribune that on information, fire service personnel went to the spot and brought the fire under control.
