Bangladesh University Shikkak Samity Federation on Wednesday asked finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith to seek apology for his comments on university teachers within 24 hours.
In a press release, the federation of the university teachers said the minister would be held responsible for any evolved situation in the educational institutions if he does not seek the apology.
The press release was jointly signed by the federation president professor Farid Uddin Ahmed and secretary general ASM Maksud Kamal.
They said finance minister is tarnishing the image of the government by giving unwarranted, inconsistent and ridiculous remarks at times. He was a minister of an autocratic government in the past and he still carries that mentality.
Finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith on Tuesday said the university teachers are waging movement against the new pay scale for the public servants for their lack of knowledge.
He added that the teachers’ programme to abstain from work has no justification. They have no idea about what the new scale has offered to them (teachers).
The teachers in the press release claimed that the public university teachers used to get the salary under grade-1 of the selection grade in the previous pay scale, but the university teachers’ status was relegated in the newly announced pay scale.
The press release added that the four-point demand of the university teachers was rejected in the new pay scale. Finance minister’s comment also created outrage among the five crore people in the education sector, it said.
