The Iraqi forces have not disclosed identities of the hostages
Identities of the Bangladeshis or the reason for the kidnap have not been disclosed. It is also unclear when the two were abducted.
Maj Gen Jalil al-Rubaie, who heads the Baghdad Operations Command, said they managed to arrest the kidnappers as well, reports Iraqi News.
“After diligent work, the command has managed to free two Bangladeshi nationals and arrest their abductors,” he said in a statement.
The rescue follows a string of operations by Iraqi forces against IS operatives and sympathisers.
A monthly count by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq, issued on Tuesday, said 518 Iraqis were killed and injured in June. Bombings and armed attacks have been on the rise since Iraq stepped up efforts to reclaim IS-occupied areas in 2016.
