Criminal Investigation Department officials said they had established the motive for the killing of Comilla Victoria College student Sohagi Jahan Tonu and would come up with ‘good news’ shortly.
CID special superintendent (Comilla and Noakhali) Nazmul Karim Khan, however, said that none was arrested so far.
‘We have established the motive…We are working to complete the investigation,’ said Nazmul.
Tonu, 19, a second year history student of Comilla Victoria College and a theatre activist, went missing on
March 20 after going out of her house at Comilla Mainamati Cantonment for tuition.
Tonu’s father Yar Hossain found her lying in bushy area at the cantonment and she was declared dead when rushed to the Combined Military Hospital.
The family of Mizanur Rahman Sohagh, ‘missing’ friend of Tonu’s brother Anwar Hossain, are still in the dark about his whereabouts. He was allegedly picked up by a group of people in plain clothes identifying them as members of law enforcement agency on March 27.
Protests seeking immediate arrest of the perpetrators continued across the country.
In Dhaka, Women for Good Governance formed a human chain in front of the National Press Club demanding immediate arrest of the killers of Tonu.
Addressing the human chain, academician Dilara Chowdhury said that in recent day the repressions on women and children increased abnormally.
She called on the government to take steps to stops repression on women and children immediately.
Dhaka University teacher Abdul Halim and labour leader Ikbal Kabir, among others, spoke at the rally.
