Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed said there was no chance of an early election before the completion of the five-year tenure of the present government.

The minister made the statement at a press briefing after holding a meeting with EU envoy William Hanna on Wednesday, a day after Finance Minister AMA Muhith made the similar statement over the issue.

Echoing Muhith, Tofail said: “We think there is no chance of holding an early election as the government is now busy to implement its election pledges.”

Earlier in the day, the minister held another meeting with British High Commissioner Robert Gibson.

Replying to a query, Tofail said: “Both the envoys said they have accepted the elections. But, they also emphasised on holding dialogue with BNP.”
