Bangladesh lead the five-match series 1-0
Opener Tamim Iqbal smashed 58 off 51 and Naeem Islam hit an unbeaten half-century steering Bangladesh to comfortable seven-wicket victory over West Indies in the opening game of the five-match ODI series in Khulna on Friday.
Naeem scored an unbeaten 50 from 79 balls while Anamul Haque knocked 41 as the hosts reached their target losing three wickets with 58 balls to spare.
West Indies bowlers Sunil Narine, Darren Sammy and Andre Russell picked up one wicket each.
Putting into bat after winning the toss, the Carribeans were bowled out for 199 in 46.5 overs at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium.
West Indies were in danger after they lost eight wickets for 133 runs. But Sunil Narine, who was top-scorer with 36 off 45, added 57 for the ninth wicket with Ravi Rampaul (25) to lift the total.
Chris Gayle scored 35 off 40 that featured with four boundaries and two sixes while Darren Bravo scored 35.
Bangladeshi debutant off-spinner Sohag Gazi grabbed 4 wickets including Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels for 29 runs as the tourists struggled on a slow track from the very beginning of their innings.
Left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak dismissed big-hitters Kieron Pollard (15) and Andre Russell (not out) before dismissing Rampaul to finish with 3-39.
Bangladesh handed one-day debuts to Gazi, Abul Hasan, Anamul Haque and Mominul Haque as they missed their star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, ruled out of the first two of the five-match series due to injury.
The West Indies cricket team arrived on a month-long tour in Dhaka on November 5 to play a full- fledged series against host Bangladesh.
The second ODI will be held at the same venue on December 2 while the remaining three one-dayers will be held in Dhaka on December 5, 7 and 8 respectively.
The ICC World T20 winners will also play a lone T20 match against Bangladesh in Dhaka on December 10.
