Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed has said that there is still threat of militancy as it exists globally.
“We turned around after Holey Artisan Café attack, but militant threats are still there as it exists globally,” he said while speaking at a programme today (July 24, 2022).
The programme was organised by Anti-Terrorism Unit at Rajarbagh Police Auditorium in Dhaka to launch a book titled “Extremism and Terrorism in the Eye of Islam”.
ATU published the book as part of its awareness programme against militancy based on explanation of scripture.
The IGP also said that social media and digital platforms, particularly Facebook and YouTube, are flooded with contradictory Islamic sermons where there is no moderation.
He requested Islamic scholars to speak against such contradictory speeches.
Mentioning different militant attacks, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, who was also present at the programme, said the attacks were carried out to brand Bangladesh as a terrorist state.
Moulana Farid Uddin Masoud said that many get confused as they do not have a clear idea of “jihad”. He termed terrorism as a contagious disease.
He also requested to translate the book into English and Arabic and circulate it nationally and internationally.
