Those involved in killings can’t escape justice: BNP

Fakhrul-ed

Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday warned that those involved in killings and enforced disappearances must face trial someday as no one is above the law.
‘Indian newspapers reported that some law enforcers of that country faced trial for their involvement in crossfire. So, no one is above the law. Those involved in the incidents of killing and enforced disappearance here will also face trial today or tomorrow,’ he said, reports United News of Bangladesh.
The BNP leader came up with the remarks while speaking at a milad mahfil arranged by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office marking the 1st anniversary of ‘making disappeared’ its Tejgaon College unit president Aminul Islam Zakir.
BNP and Zakir’s family members alleged that he remained missing since he was picked up by law enforcers from the city’s Banani area on this day last year.
Mentioning enforced disappearance a serious crime against humanity, Fakhrul said people never saw it earlier the way many people made disappeared in the last few years.
He said the country is passing through a critical time for lack of democracy and the rule of law. ‘The crisis is depending gradually…our many leaders and activists were killed and maimed. Thousands of cases were filed against our all level leaders.’
Fakhrul said now there is no alternative to forcing the government to establish a pro-people distraction by uniting people.
He also called upon JCD leaders and activists to be vocal for ensuring punishment of the killers of Comilla Victoria College student Sohagi Jahan Tonu.
