A video of a teenaged girl being raped at a birthday party at Bhedarganj in Shariatpur on March 15 went viral on social media on June 15, three months after the incident.
After the release of the video, the victim filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act and the Pornography Control Act with Bhedarganj police station, said Bhedarganj police sub-inspector Rajib Sutradhar, also the investigation officer of the case.
The accused are Arpan Das, 19, Durjoy Das, 19, both from Sajanpur Daspara village under Mahishar union of Bhedarganj upazila and Mubdi Sarker, 18, from South Mahishar village. They are students of Sajanpur Islamia High School.
‘Efforts are underway to arrest the accused,’ said officer-in-charge of the police station Bahalul Khan Bahar.
The victim on Sunday told journalists that she had agreed to attend the birthday party as the accused were her classmates and at one point, Arpan raped her, and the other two accused recorded the incident.
Later, the accused tried to blackmail her showing the video, but she disagreed to fulfil their demand and so the accused published the footage online, she said.
‘We are under pressure as the accused are powerful. I am not sure whether I can sit for this year’s SSC [Secondary School Certificate] exam,’ said the victim.
She has also stopped going to school after the incident went viral, fearing social defamation.
Accused Mubid claimed that he had no connection in this regard. He rebuked the other two for their act.
Teachers of the school demanded strict action in this regard so that this kind of incidents never happens in future.
