State Minister for Law Quamrul Islam on Wednesday termed the legal notice of BNP senior vice-chairman served to him a political stunt, and said it will not help him in any way.
“So far, I haven’t received such a notice. I came to know about it through newspaper and television reports, but serving a legal notice is nothing but a political stunt,” he said.
Quamrul said this while addressing an anti-hartal sit-in in front of Awami League office at Bangabandhu Avenue in the city.
“What I said about Tarique Rahman was correct. He is a fugitive. If I’ve lied, then BNP can challenge it in court,” he told the gathering.
On Tuesday, BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman sent a legal notice through his counsel to State Minister for Law Quamrul Islam for making ‘defamatory comments’ against him.
About today’s hartal, the AL leader said, “BNP has a habit of hiding in holes by enforcing shutdowns. Tarique Rahman’s issue can’t be settled by calling shutdowns… it has to be resolved through the court.”
“If BNP thinks Tarique is innocent, let him to come out clean through court,” he said.
Quamrul said the trial against Tatique is at the last stage. “If he doesn’t get back home, the law will take its own course.”
