Customs officials at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport seized gold bars weighing about 24 kgs in two separate incidents on Wednesday.
Customs officials seized 120 gold bars weighing about 13.80 kgs from inside an aircraft of Regent Airways early in the morning.
Sources at the airport said the flight of the Regent Airways from Malaysia landed at the airport at about 4:28 am.
Being informed from the aircraft’s pilot, the customs officials conducted a search inside a washroom of it after all the passengers got down at about 5:15 am.
They found six packets each containing 20 gold bars worth about Tk 6 croe in an abandoned condition inside the toilet.
However, their carrier managed to escape sensing the presence of the law enforcers.
In another incident, customs intelligence officials conducted search in an aircraft of Singapore Airlines and found 12 gold bars weighing about 1 kg at about !2:30 pm.
The gold bars were kept hidden inside the machineries in the cargo.
Present market value of the seized gold bars is about Tk 12 crore.
