Tajuddin Ahmad, an outstanding organiser and leader, played a pivotal role in making the preparations for country’s Liberation War, and also as the prime minister of Bangladesh throughout the war in 1971. But Bangladesh is yet to acknowledge him with due evaluation whereas killers took away his life for his valiant role.
Speakers at a discussion marking the 90th anniversary of birth of Bangladesh’s unsung hero Tajuddin Ahmad came up with such observations. The Liberation War Museum organised the discussion on Friday as 23 July was his birthday.
Liberation War trustee Sarwar Ali said, “Tajuddin played an invaluable role in each of the political movements for Bangladesh’s independence. He was the leading organiser of the Liberation War, and was the most disciplined among the Awami League leaders.”
Sarwar Ali said Tajuddin used to lead ordinary, honest and simple life. “He throughout his life showed his obedience to Bangabandhu and finally he sacrificed his life for the cause.”
Senior lawyer Rafique-ul Huq said Tajuddin Ahmad was a great soul. “Such an honest great leader is not born often in this country.”
Syed Hasan Imam said most of the leaders used to live with their family during the liberation war. “But Tajuddin had taken a vow that he would return to his family until the land is liberated, and he kept his words.”
Tajuddin’s daughter and ruling Awami League member of parliament Simin Hossain Rimi said his father used to speak of the welfare of the mass people in his political statements.
