A 106-run partnership by Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma propelled India their 2nd consecutive victory beating West Indies by 7 wickets in the Super10 Group2 match of the World Twenty20 at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
Replying to holder West Indies’ an ordinary 129 runs, world champion India easily reached their target scoring 130 runs for 3 wickets in 19.4 overs.
Opener Rohit Sharma scored an unbeaten 62 runs from 55 deliveries featuring five fours and two sixes.
In the 2nd wicket stand, Rohit Sharma pairing with Virat Kohli contributed the marvelous 106 runs in 13.5 overs.
Virat Kohli added 54 runs off 41 balls with five fours and a six before he was clean bowled by Andre Russell.
Yuvraj Singh was caught by Chris Gayle off a Marlon Samuels delivery after making 10 runs off 19 balls with a boundary.
In the beginning, Shikhar Dhawan returned to the pavilion with a duck as he was trapped LBW in the very first over’s 5th delivery by Samuel Badree.
Earlier, sent in to bat first, West Indies, displaying a dismal innings, posted 129 runs for 7 in stipulated 20 overs with veteran batsman Chris Gayle scoring the team’s highest 34 runs off 33 balls featuring a four and two sixes.
Lendl Simmons made 27 runs off 22 balls with a four and two sixes while number three batsman Marlon Samuels added 18 runs off 22 balls including three boundaries. Skipper Darren Sammy (11), Dwayne Smith (11), Andre Russell (7) and Sunil Narine (not out7) were the other scorers for West Indies.
Amit Mishra was adjudged man of the match for the 2nd match in a row taking two wickets for 18 runs in his four overs spell in the match.
Ravindra Jadeja captured three wickets for 48 runs in his four overs spell while Ravichandran Ashwin took one wicket conceding 24 runs.
