Doctors said his condition was critical
Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury has been admitted to the city’s Mound Adora Hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest.
Doctors said his condition was critical.
The mayor’s family sources said he suddenly became ill and suffered chest pain while on his way back to home after attending the monthly meeting of Sylhet Diabetic Hospital around 07:45pm yesterday.
Ariful was taken to Mount Adora Hospital as his condition deteriorated. The doctors, following preliminary check-up, said the mayor had suffered a heart attack and took him to the hospital’s ICU (intensive care unit).
A medical board was formed promptly which recommended the mayor should be taken to Dhaka for better treatment. He is expected to be flown to Dhaka by air ambulance on Saturday morning.
National Professor Brigadier (retd) Dr MA Malik is supervising Ariful’s treatment from Dhaka.
Chief Health Officer of Sylhet city Dr Sudhamoy Mazumder said Ariful would be sent to Dhaka according to the medical board’s recommendation.
Although he is stable now, he is not out of danger, Sudhamoy said.
Ariful’s wife Sama Haque Chowdhury, meanwhile, has implored the countrymen to pray for her husband’s recovery.
