The power supply is yet to be restored in Sylhet

The Sylhet city corporation is out of power for about 17 hours as the regular power supply to the city corporation area has been collapsed after the attack of the torrential storm at 12:45am on Sunday.

Locals said the electricity supply was shut down in the city at 1am as the torrential storm hit the supply chain and the power distribution collapsed around 12:45am on Sunday.

But, the authorities of Sylhet Electricity and Distribution Board has assured to bring the power supply back by the evening.

While talking to the Dhaka Tribune on Monday afternoon, hours after the electricity supply was shut in the city, Executive Engineer of Electricity and Distribution Board Nazrul Islam said: “The regular electricity supply will be back by the evening.”

He said: “The power department has already initiated a special drive to restore the electricity supply and we hope that the supply will be fixed within the evening.

The regular electric supply disrupted in the city as some trees fell on the electric wires, poll, power transmitter and other electrical supplying equipments and the city went under complete blackout at around 1am,” he added.

He further said Jalalabad cantonment’s power supply has already been restored and some parts of the city is also back in regular distribution by using two feeders and vital installations.

Executive Engineer of Electricity and Distribution Board Alkas Uddin said: “We have restored power supply in 60% areas of the city till 7pm. But, Raynagar and Shibganj areas are still out of power.”
