Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Tuesday alleged that the Appellate Division order staying the bail granted to the party chairperson Khaleda Zia by the High Court Division was ‘unprecedented’.
BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi at a news briefing at the party›s central office made the remarks, saying the incident of staying Khaleda›s bail by the Appellate Division was ‘government-dictated’.
He said the High Court granted the bail to Khaleda in a ‘false’ case filed in Comilla.
Rizvi said BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia is a victim of vendetta of prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
He said massive discussions were being taken place among the general people that ‘the illegal government has taken the highest court to its grip after taking the lower court totally to its grip’.
Staying Khaleda’s bail is ‘the implementation of the order of Sheikh Hasina’, Rizvi said. The senior joint secretary general said they have submitted letters to Dhaka metropolitan police commissioner and Dhaka south city mayor for holding protest rally in front of BNP central office at Nayapaltan at 3:00 pm on Thursday.
They have also submitted applications to the authorities concerned of Mohanagar Natya
Mancha and Institution of Engineers›, Bangladesh in Dhaka for observing token hunger strike from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on July 9 at any of the two venues, he added.
On Monday, BNP announced countrywide protest rally for Thursday protesting at ‘unjustly’ detaining Khaleda
in jail and token hunger strike for July 9 demanding immediate release of Khaleda and her proper medical treatment.
