Stay away from corruption: PM to MPs

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday asked the newly-elected MPs not to indulge in irregularities, corruption and nepotism while discharging their duties.

She came up with the directive while addressing the Awami League Parliamentary Party (ALPP) meeting at Sangsad Bhaban.

Ruling party Chief Whip ASM Feroz briefed reporters at the Media Centre of Parliament about the two-hour long meeting that started at 6:30 pm.

He said the Prime Minister also asked the MPs to remain careful so that their image does not get soiled in any way. “Maintain transparency in your works to keep your image clean,” she told the MPs.

The Prime Minister asked the AL MPs to coordinate in the upcoming upazila elections and emphasised selecting single candidate.

An MP who was present at the meeting told UNB on condition of anonymity that the Prime Minister also warned the MPs about the conspirators of the 1/11 episode.

“A vested quarter is now upset seeing us in power again as the 1/11 conspiracy is still on,” Hasina said.

Responding to a question, the Chief Whip said opposition Jatiyo Party will get five seats in the front row of House though they are demanding one more. “Their demand is now under active consideration,” he said.

The ALPP meeting nominated incumbent Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury for the post of Speaker of the 10th parliament, while Awami League MP Advocate Fazle Rabbi for the post of Deputy Speaker and Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury as the Deputy Leader of the House.
