The Supreme Court today extended its chamber judge’s order that issued a status quo on the possession of Jamuna Resort till May 17.
The resort located on the south bank of Jamuna River in Tangail, will remain under the possession of Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA) following the SC order, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told The Daily Star.
He said the BBA has already took the possession of the resort through cancelling a 30-year lease with Jamuna Resort Ltd (JRL), a consortium of Bangladeshi and foreign companies.
Today, the Appellate Division of the apex court also asked the BBA to properly take care of the animals and birds being reared in the resort, around 100km from the capital, till its further order.
A four-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha passed the order after hearing a petition filed by the BBA against a High Court order in this regard.
The SC also asked the BBA to submit a leave to appeal petition against the HC order to it (SC) by May 17.
Following a petition, the HC on April 23, allowed the JRL to run its lawful business at the resort for next three months.
It also stayed a Dhaka court order that upheld the BBA notice that on April 1, cancelled a 30-year lease of the resort with the JRL.
Following a petition filed by the BBA, the chamber judge of the SC on April 26, directed the both the BBA and the JRL to maintain status quo on the possession of the resort.
