BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, standing trial on a raft of war crimes charges, has been sued for alleged sexual violation of a fellow inmate in Kashimpur Jail.
Father of the victim, Abdus Salam, has filed a case in this regard at the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Abu Ahsan Habib of Gazipur.
The court has fixed May 20 as the next hearing date.
He said the victim-inmate, hailing from Sherpur’s Hatiagla village, used to serve Chowdhury in the prison.
As per rules, an attendant could be appointed officially for the detainees enjoying Division or special privileges, Jailor Nesar Alam said.
Chowdhury, a BNP lawmaker from Chittagong, enjoys Division facility in the jail.
Lawyer of the victim Wajuddin Mia told bdnews24.com that the court had ordered Joydebpur police Office in Charge to probe the charge.
The prison authorities had appointed the prisoner serving life-term as Chowdhury’s attendant around seven months ago. He was relieved of his duty and transferred to Mymensingh jail in January after the charge of sexual violation surfaced.
Plaintiff Salam said his son had been in the Kashimpur jail since 2008 after being sentenced life imprisonment in a murder case. Chowdhury later allegedly sexually exploited his son.
The prison authorities had ordered Jail Superintendent Jamil Ahmed Chowdhury to probe the matter. He is yet to file a report
