Tension runs high on the Dhaka University campus and its adjacent areas as BCL activists took position at different key points to prevent JCD men from entering the campus Tuesday morning.
The activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, a student wing of opposition BNP, allegedly blasted at least 22 cocktails on the campus and its nearby areas when BCL men chased them to foil their bid to enter the campus, witnessed said.
Of the cocktails, 10 were exploded at Nilkhet, seven at Palashi, three at Shahbagh and two in front of Teachers Students Centre in the capital within a span of two hours from 9:00am.
The Bangladesh Chhatra League, student wing of ruling Awami League, chased the JCD men as they tried to enter the university campus with a procession from Doyel Chattar around 9:00am, witnesses added.
Being chased by the BCL men, they blasted two cocktails before the TSC, witnesses said.
Meanwhile, BCL men chased another JCD procession near Zohurul Haq Hall when it tried to enter the campus through Nilkhet.
Again, being chased by BCL, the processionists got dispersed and blasted 10 cocktails at Nilkhet, three at Shahbagh and seven at Palashi, witnesses said.
Shahidul Islam, patrol inspector of Shahbagh Police Station, told The Daily Star that the JCD men might explode the cocktails after being chased by the BCL activists of the DU unit.
Police also recovered an unexploded cocktail at Nilkhet.
