Chief justice SK Sinha, who is on a 30-day ‘sick’ leave from October 3, took medical treatment at International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh on Sunday.
The chief justice went to the ICDDR,B hospital in the morning and consulted doctors.
He also gave samples for medical tests, said an official of ICDDR,B.
Sinha and his wife have been given five-year visas to enter Australia to spend the longer period of time on October 5.
In a notification issued on the night of October 2, the government announced Sinha’s 30-day ‘sick leave’ from October 3.
The notification also said that Appellate Division senior most judge Md Abdul Wahhab Miah was assigned to discharge the duties and functions of the chief justice during the absence of justice Sinha.
Sinha hogged headlines since the release of full verdict of 16th amendment to the constitution on August 1.
The verdict restored the Supreme Judicial Council system replacing parliament’s power to remove Supreme Court judges for misconduct or incapacity.
The apex court chaired by chief justice SK Sinha said in its observations of the 16th amendment verdict that human rights in the country were at stake, corruption was rampant and parliament was ‘dysfunctional’ and the lawmakers were ‘immature’, drawing criticism by the ruling Awami League leaders and welcome by opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party leaders.
