A top leader of Hefajat-e Islam has told a court in Dhaka that the group’s May 5 Dhaka siege programme was designed to oust the Awami League-led alliance government, according to court sources.

The BNP-led 18-party opposition combine financed the programme, Hefajat Secretary General Junaid Babunagari said in his confessional statement made before the Court of Chief MetropolitanMagistrate, Dhaka Tuesday, said the sources.

According to him, Dhaka city unit BNP convenor Sadek Hossain Khoka coordinated the whole programme and handed over the money to Hefajat leaders.

Babunagari blamed activists of Jamaat-Shibir, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Juba Dal for violence in downtown Dhaka on the day when property worth crores of taka were vandalised and burnt down.

After recording his statement, Metropolitan Magistrate Harun Ur Rashid sent Babunagari to jail.

Police arrested Babunagari near the Dhakeshwari Temple on May 6, hours after thousands of Hefajat activists resorted to violence in downtown Dhaka during and after the May 5 rally, causing widespread damage.

    This kind of getting forced confession has become the norm of this corrupt government that has destroyed states almost every institution by politicking it. Judiciary, Education and Law enforcing politicization has destroyed the very base of the structure of a just society. What wonder no person has any more trust in these institutions?
