Bangladesh Nationalist Party vice-chairman Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury has withdrawn himself from all kinds of political activities on his health grounds.
Shamsher told New Age that he has written a letter to party chairperson Khaleda Zia apprising her of his quitting politics and it has been reached to party’s acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday night.
‘I will be no more in politics as my health condition now does not permit it,’ he said.
The military-turned-bureaucrat joined in BNP in 2008 and was made foreign affairs adviser to the party chief. He was made vice-chairman in the party’s 2008 council session.
Before joining BNP, he served Khaleda Zia’s government as secretary of the foreign affairs ministry.
Shamsher was also arrested on charge of vandalism and anarchy during the BNP-led alliance’s movement early this year. Later he was released on bail.
