Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation (BRTWF) Executive President Shajahan Khan has blamed the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) for pushing drivers to call a nationwide strike over the new road transport act.

“The leaflets published and distributed by BRTA mentioned 13 penalties for drivers under different clauses of the new law. These leaflets caused fear among drivers which led them to call a nationwide strike on Wednesday,” Shajahan, also an Awami League parliamentarian and a former shipping minister, said on Friday.

He made the statement while addressing a press conference at BRTWF office at Dhaka’s Segunbagicha area.

“There are also penalties for pedestrians and others under the new law. However, those were not mentioned in the BRTA leaflet,” he added.

Shajahan also mentioned that leaders of the country’s transport sector will again sit for a discussion with Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Saturday to press home their demands.https://www.dhakatribune.com/bangladesh/dhaka/2019/09/22/dncc-mayor-no-to-party-offices-on-footpath
