A CCTV video footage has marked a group of men who sexually assaulted women several times in an organised way at TSC area on Dhaka University campus on Apr 14.
The assaults on the women took place in the evening on that day amid Pahela Baishakh celebrations.
Ekattor TV ran a report on Saturday after analysing the one-hour-long footage captured by close circuit television cameras that were installed by police.
The footage showed that a bearded man, donning a white Panjabi, along with 10 to 12 others, in similar outfits, were in the thick of the assaults.
But these people could not be identified.
DMP’s Detective Branch spokesman Monirul Islam on Saturday told bdnews24.com that their investigation was yet to identify the harassers.
The Ekattor TV report said video footage showed that the bearded man was involved in most of the assaults on women in front of the Suhrawardy Udyan’s gate, situated opposite to the Teachers Students Centre.
Nearly an hour after the man was first spotted in the footage, he was seen again standing at the same place at 6:39pm, apparently waiting for someone.
Ekattor TV’s report said he was seen among the harassers during the assault on two women at that spot at 6:48pm. Several other bandana-wearing bearded men, who were waiting there too, could be seen around him.
The first men were also seen among those who dragged a woman down from a rickshaw only a minute later, the report said showing the footage.
The report spotted that white Panjabi wearing person and other members of the group assaulting women in three incidents caught in the video footage.
Witness of the events, Bangladesh Chhatra Union leader Liton Nandi had earlier said that a group of men were responsible for the sexual assaults.
Nandi had fractured his right arm while defending the honour of one of the women.
The television channel, however, was unable to identify the assaulters from the footage.
The channel also said its Correspondent Farzana Rupa had received death threats after they ran the report on the shocking incident.
